Widcombe Infant School provides a wide range of extra curricular opportunities to enhance the children's learning and provide activities which allow them to develop their interests and talents.
Throughout the year all classes go on a variety of trips both within the local area; Widcombe, Bath Fashion Museum, Museum of Bath at Work, local churches, Holburne Museum, Egg Theatre and further afield; Bristol Zoo, Slimbridge, Caldicot Castle, British Aerospace and Brokerswood. This gives the children practical and first hand learning experiences.
Also a range of experts visit the school to work with the children to provide additional experiences. These include sports coaches, artists, actors, the School Nurse, theatre companies and musicians. For example Reception experience gymnastic coaching, Year 1 receive football coaching, Year 2 receive gymnastics and cricket coaching, the whole school participate in a series of drama and dance workshops, Science Explorer Dome lead workshops for the whole school, all classes work with a local artist and the School Nurse works with all classes on health issues.
A large number of clubs take place during the year which children can join. Some clubs take place during the school day including Choir, Recorders, Computing, Chime Bars and other clubs take place after school normally for a term at a time. These are run either by staff, sports coaches or experts in particular fields. They include Art, Cooking, Little Chefs, Spanish, Tennis, Football, Cricket, Gymnastics, Dance, Netball, Athletics, Multi-Skills, Hockey, Tag Rugby, Computers, Science and Wild Child (Forest School).
All children participate regularly in Forest School sessions, both at school and in the local environment, for example Smallcombe Woods.The children are involved in a range of activities including gardening, pond dipping, bird watching, composting, planting seeds, harvesting produce, recycling, sustainability and creating habitats for wildlife. All gardening at the school is organic.
